PUERTO PRÍNCIPE — La Policía Nacional de Haití dijo que está investigando las muertes de tres policías que atribuyó a pandillas.
La agencia dijo el miércoles que una pandilla llamada “Ti Makak” — Pequeños Macacos — mató a los policías el martes en Laboule, una comunidad residencial al sur de Puerto Príncipe.
Es además el sitio de una disputa territorial entre pandillas que ha llevado a otros asesinatos en el área, incluyendo los de dos periodistas que fueron muertos a tiros en enero y un exsenador que trabajó en el Ministerio de Asuntos Sociales y Trabajo y su sobrino, que fueron baleados en agosto.
La policía dijo que inició una investigación de lo que llamó un acto “odioso y repugnante”.
Un video en redes sociales parece mostrar a los policías muertos en el suelo, sin camisa y con varias armas de fuego a su lado.
“Aquí están, aquí están”, dice un hombre mientras la cámara muestra los cuerpos.
Las pandillas haitianas se han vuelto más poderosas desde el asesinato el 7 de julio del 2021 del presidente Jovenel Moïse y han abrumado a la policía, que tiene escaso personal y recursos.
La comunidad internacional ha tratado de fortalecer la policia haitiana con entrenamiento y recursos en meses recientes.
